What Needs to Be Done

Currently, much work needs to be done in policing as a whole. Many reforms must be brought forward in different areas and policing in a democratic society such as America. This has to be looked at and reevaluated to determine what works and doesn’t for most of the population. The training standards must be revised first; physical and mental readiness must be reevaluated and returned to their original standard. This is so that it can be ensured that quality officers are being pushed through academies. This does not include reversing the living of tattoo or college requirements; instead, they focus on physical fitness and interpersonal skills that relate more to their line of duty. Next, police leaders should try to work with communities more and build relationships. This is because 98% of people in all populations try to live their best lives, and the other 2% commit most crimes; this statistic is almost universally accurate. Finally, departments need more transparency and accountability, from patrol officers to chiefs. This ensures the department's optimal functioning and maintains morale throughout the workplace. It also helps the community see the inner workings of departments, allowing them to trust them more.
