Basic Training Overview

Recruits must undergo daily physical training while learning constitutional law and local statutes. They also receive training on using their equipment, including their tazer, baton, radio, firearm, and martial arts for self-defense. Recruits will also be trained heavily in communication and de-escalation skills since the job of policing is interpersonal. This allows them to be adequately prepared to respond to hot calls or heightened conflicts effectively without escalating a conflict past what it should or needs to be. These efforts give the police a sense of legitimacy to the public, which allows them to assert their authority effectively when needed.
